How do I get there?

Travel to London

From Europe

If you are travelling from continental Europe, your cheapest option will almost certainly be into Stansted (or maybe Luton) Airport.

From North America

If you do not live on the East Coast, we would recommend looking at roundtrip flights from an airport on the Eastern Seaboard (specifically, Boston, London, or Washington DC), and buying your domestic journey to that airport separately. We have used this tactic in the past to reduce travel costs by over 50%. These flights will be lower-cost European carriers that will likely fly to Gatwick airport. Direct flights with nicer airlines will invariably arrive at Heathrow.

From the rest of the world

You will almost certainly arrive at Heathrow airport. However, as per the North American section above, we’d recommend playing around with round-trip flights with a stopover in between (e.g., we booked London to Mumbai roundtrip and Mumbai to Jakarta roundtrip and saved money)

Getting into London from the airport

The wedding is in East London, and we hope that you will be staying not too far from the venue! Here is our recommendation to get to East London from each possible airport:

Stansted We highly recommend using the National Express coach (bus) service. It is less than an hour to either Stratford or Liverpool Street stations, both of which are very close to the wedding venue. The Stansted Express train will take you to Liverpool Street station in a fraction of the time if you are in a hurry, but it is much more expensive

Luton Luton Airport has a glossy new airtrain (called “DART”) that will take you from the airport terminal to the train station for £4.90. From there, there is a direct train connection to Farringdon station, which is not far from the wedding venue. There are also National Express connections to West London bus stations, from which you will take the tube – these will probably save you money, but will take much longer

Heathrow Take the Elizabeth Line direct from Heathrow to either Liverpool Street or Whitechapel station, depending on which is closest to your hotel. Use your contactless card to pay for this journey (simply tap at the gates), as that is the cheapest option. Note: The Heathrow Express train service leaves from the same platform. DO NOT board this train, as you will be forced to pay around $30 (as well as stop at Paddington, which is still very far from the wedding venue)

Gatwick Take the Thameslink train to Farringdon station, and if desired, get on the Elizabeth Line eastbound towards Liverpool Street and Whitechapel. DO NOT use the Gatwick Express train – it will take you to West London for about 5x the cost

Getting to Clapton Country Club, the wedding venue

The easiest way to get to the venue is by taxi or Uber (Bolt and other rideshare apps are available). There is no parking on-site but there is free parking on nearby Evering Rd N16 from 11am every day.

We'd recommend taxis/Ubers drop you off on one of the nearby side streets as Upper Clapton Road is a really busy main road!

The nearest tube/train station is Clapton, which is on the London Overground (the orange line). The station is a 3 min walk to the venue.

The London Overground doesn't run past ~11:30pm, so to get public transport home we recommend you take a taxi/Uber to Highbury & Islington (Victoria line) or Bethnal Green (central line) which both run night tube services.

Accommodation
Please see the map for the venue location.

Hotels
There aren't many hotels in the Clapton area. We would recommend staying around Liverpool Street, Islington/Angel, Barbican/Farringdon or Stratford where there will be more choice.

Airbnb
If you're travelling in a bigger group, an Airbnb might be more economical.

Clapton is quite residential and is quieter than some of the other surrounding neighbourhoods. Nearby Islington/Angel, Stoke Newington, Hackney, Dalston and Haggerston have a much younger feel. Stratford and Liverpool Street are much busier and have more of a city vibe.

Do let us know if you have any questions on which areas to stay in.

Aparthotels
For example, Citadines and Locke. Again, this may be a more economical option if you're travelling in a group! You can find good options in Barbican, Liverpool Street/Aldgate and Angel/Islington.

Where should we stay?
